God Moves in Unorthodox Ways

While praying with a group of my sisters in Christ this morning, one sister asked for prayer regarding her finances. As I was praying for her I was reminded of Matthew 17:27 where Jesus told Peter to cast a hook into the sea, take the first fish that came up, open its mouth and the money they needed to pay a tax would be inside. [ Be sure to read the entire chapter for full context. Bible Ref has good commentary on this verse and chapter ]

I was also reminded of times when God moved for me financially in ways I did not expect. For instance, 2 weeks ago today, I was praying over my finances and I said, "Lord, send your angels to get my silver and gold. Send your angels to retrieve my wealth. If someone owes me money, send it! If an institution owes me money, send it! Whatever belongs to me! Bring it to me, in Jesus' name." Later that day, my dad called into a local radio station that our friend was on. My dad doesn't live in the same state as this radio station but I do, and he called in to support our friend. Well he answered a question correctly and won a $25 gift card to a grocery store that is only found in my state!

If you read carefully, you would have noticed that the radio station my dad called into was not local to him, however it was local to me! Since he was unable to retrieve the gift card, I was blessed with it! Now, $25 gift card for groceries might seem small to you with inflation and all but it was $25 more than what I had that morning when I prayed that prayer! Thank You, Jesus!

I've noticed that sometimes when God moves for me financially, he doesn't always send me the cash money I need (and there are times he does) but he sends me resources that fulfill that need. Sometimes he blesses others with surplus and they give their excess to me - from food, clothes, shoes, furniture, laptops and even more! Then, when I have something that someone may need, I am able to continue the blessing of giving to those in need. I believe there are times when God supplies another need I have so the money I was going to spend on that need can be used somewhere else!

Back to Matthew 17:27 - Sometimes God uses unorthodox methods to provide for us.

Unorthodox:

Adjective - not conforming to rules, traditions, or modes of conduct, as of a doctrine, religion, or philosophy

I believe it's so we know that he alone is the one who supplies our needs and so we depend on him and not on our jobs or other people to supply our needs.

Philippians 4:19 - But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Proverbs 3:5-6 - Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

When it comes to finances, I believe God is able to forgive loans, erase debt and bless us with grants and waivers to pay off or pay for those things. Of course he can simply bless us with the money we need while also giving use his wisdom on how to be good stewards over what he's given us.

My prayer is that as we depend on God, that he opens doors for us and moves for us in unimaginable ways (Ephesians 3:20). God is not limited by our earthly limitations, for he has no limitations! He's not bound by our earthly boundaries, because he is boundless! So our faith shouldn't be either.

Godspeed 💛

Much Love & Many Blessings 💛
